THE QUICK ANSWER

Panchakarma in Dubai, in one paragraph.

Panchakarma is the classical five-action Ayurvedic detoxification programme, supervised by a BAMS-qualified physician over 7, 14, or 21 days. It includes preparation (oleation and sudation), main therapies (Virechana, Basti, Nasya — and Vamana or Raktamokshana when indicated), and a structured recovery phase. At Vedara Care Polyclinic in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, authentic Panchakarma programmes start from AED 8,500 and address chronic back pain, PCOS, migraine, stress, weight management, and full constitutional reset.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Priya Nair, BAMS, MD (Ayurveda), DHA-Licensed · Last updated May 2026

THE FOUNDATION

Not a detox week. A classical medical protocol.

The word Panchakarma means "five actions" — referring to the five classical therapies described in Ayurvedic texts over 2,000 years ago: Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana. Together, they remove deep-seated toxins (ama) and rebalance the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).

Panchakarma is not a wellness retreat, not a juice cleanse, and not a massage package. It is a medical protocol — prescribed by a doctor after assessment, executed by trained therapists, monitored daily, and followed by a structured recovery period that often matters more than the treatment itself.

Done properly, Panchakarma takes a minimum of 7 days for a basic reset and 21 days for full classical treatment. Done in a single day, or "added to" a spa weekend, it is not Panchakarma.

"Panchakarma is medicine, not maintenance. The body needs preparation, treatment, and recovery — in that order."

THE FIVE ACTIONS

The five classical therapies, explained honestly.

Not every patient needs all five. Your doctor will select which actions are appropriate for your dosha pattern, condition, and constitution.

Vamana (वमन — Therapeutic Emesis)

Therapeutic Vomiting Protocol

A carefully prepared, doctor-induced therapeutic vomiting protocol used to remove excess Kapha from the upper digestive and respiratory tracts. Vamana is the most intensive of the five actions and is prescribed selectively.

Typical use:Kapha disorders, asthma, severe sinusitis

Duration:Single day with preparation and recovery

01

Virechana (विरेचన — Therapeutic Purgation)

Medicated Purgation

Medicated purgation to clear accumulated Pitta from the liver, gallbladder, and small intestine. One of the most clinically useful Panchakarma actions for modern conditions.

Typical use:PCOS, skin conditions, liver health, metabolic imbalance

Duration:Single day with 3 days preparation and recovery

Basti (बस्ति — Medicated Enema)

Medicated Enema Therapy

Considered the most important of the five actions in classical texts — "half of all treatment is Basti." A series of medicated enemas using either herbal decoctions or medicated oils.

Typical use:Chronic pain, sciatica, IBS, neurological recovery, Vata disorders

Duration:8, 15, or 30 day courses depending on condition

Nasya (नस्य — Nasal Therapy)

Nasal Administration

Medicated oils or herbal preparations administered through the nasal passages, addressing everything from chronic sinusitis to migraines, hair loss, and head-and-neck conditions.

Typical use:Chronic sinusitis, migraine, hair loss, cervical spondylosis

Duration:7-14 day courses

Raktamokshana (रक्तमోక्षण — Therapeutic Bloodletting)

Selective Bloodletting

Selective bloodletting through controlled methods including leech therapy (Jalaukavacharana) or venesection. Used for specific Pitta-Raktha conditions like certain skin diseases and gout.

Typical use:Severe skin conditions, gout, varicose veins (selective)

Duration:Procedure-based, vary recovery

05

THE PROTOCOL

A Panchakarma programme has three phases. The middle one is what most patients picture. The first and third are what make it work.

1

Purvakarma

Preparation

The days before main therapies, when your body is prepared to release toxins. Without this phase, Panchakarma does not work properly — and can be harmful. Includes Snehapana (internal oil massage), Abhyanga (external oil massage), and Swedana (medicated steam therapy).

Duration: 3-7 days

  • Snehapana (graduated internal medicated ghee or oil)
  • Daily Abhyanga (full body warm oil massage)
  • Daily Swedana (medicated steam)
2

Pradhanakarma

Main Therapy

The main Panchakarma actions selected by your doctor — Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Vamana, or Raktamokshana. This is what most people think of as "Panchakarma." For most modern patients, the doctor will prescribe two or three of the five, not all.

Duration: 1-10 days depending on actions

  • Doctor-selected combination of the five actions
  • Continuous monitoring of doshas
  • Daily clinical review
3

Paschatkarma

Recovery

The phase most clinics skip — and why most Panchakarma elsewhere fails. After main therapies, the body is depleted and sensitive. A structured 7-14 day recovery period rebuilds digestive fire, gradually re-introduces foods, and locks in the benefits.

Duration: 7-14 days, partly at home

  • Samsarjana Krama (graduated diet protocol)
  • Herbal rejuvenation medicines
  • Lifestyle and dietary guidance
  • Follow-up visits on Day 7 and Day 14
PROGRAMMES

CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

What Panchakarma actually treats well in Dubai patients.

Honest clinical guidance from our doctors. Panchakarma is powerful for specific conditions — and unnecessary for others. We will tell you which yours is.

When Panchakarma is not the answer

Real Ayurvedic doctors say no when Panchakarma is not indicated. We will tell you when modern medicine is the right first step, or when a lighter Ayurvedic protocol is more appropriate.

  • Acute infections requiring antibiotics
  • Pregnancy and immediate postnatal (different protocols apply)
  • Severe heart conditions
  • Active cancer treatment (we may support recovery — never replace oncology)
  • Acute mental health crises
  • Young children (paediatric Ayurveda follows different protocols)

09:30

PANCHAKARMA QUESTIONS

What patients ask before committing to Panchakarma.

A serious commitment of time and money deserves serious answers. WhatsApp us anything that is not here.

Ask the Panchakarma Team

Panchakarma is the classical five-action Ayurvedic detoxification protocol described in 2,000-year-old Sanskrit texts. It involves preparation (oleation and steam therapy), main therapies (a doctor-selected combination of Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Vamana, and Raktamokshana), and a structured recovery phase. Panchakarma is medical, not cosmetic — it must be prescribed and supervised by a BAMS-qualified physician.

A minimum of 7 days for a basic reset, 14 days for classical Panchakarma, and 21 days for full intensive protocols. Anyone offering "1-day Panchakarma" or "weekend Panchakarma" is offering something else — typically Abhyanga and Shirodhara, which are individual therapies, not the full classical protocol.

At Vedara Care, our 7-day Panchakarma Reset starts from AED 8,500, the 14-day Classical Panchakarma from AED 15,500, and the 21-day Intensive from AED 24,000. These prices include consultations, all therapies, herbal medicines, medicated oils, dietary plans, and follow-up support. Pricing across Dubai's main Ayurvedic clinics ranges from AED 3,500 to AED 20,000 depending on length and inclusions.

Some insurance plans cover Panchakarma, others do not. Most often partial coverage is available through Daman, AXA, Now Health, and certain Allianz premium tiers. Vedara Care is a direct-billing partner with seven major insurers. Send a photo of your insurance card on WhatsApp before booking and we will confirm your specific coverage in writing.

Patients with chronic conditions that have not responded to other treatment — chronic back pain, PCOS, stress and burnout, migraine, weight management, IBS, certain skin conditions, and rheumatoid arthritis. Also for constitutional reset (recommended every 3-5 years), pre-conception preparation, and post-illness recovery. Your doctor will tell you honestly if Panchakarma is the right protocol for your specific case.

Pregnant women (different Ayurvedic protocols apply), patients in acute infection requiring antibiotics, those with severe heart conditions, anyone in active cancer treatment, severe mental health crises, and young children. Panchakarma is also typically deferred for elderly patients with multiple comorbidities — a lighter Ayurvedic protocol is usually safer.

Yes, but expect to spend 3-5 hours per day at the clinic during the main programme. Most working patients reduce work commitments significantly during the 7-14 day main period. The 21-day intensive often requires extended leave. We help you plan timing realistically at consultation — Panchakarma performed half-heartedly while juggling deadlines does not deliver results.

Early start (around 7:00 AM), morning doctor consultation, 2-3 hours of therapy, prescribed meals (typically kitchari preparations), mandatory rest, light afternoon activity, and an evening check-in. No alcohol, no caffeine, no heavy social activities, no intense exercise, and minimal screen time. The lifestyle restrictions matter as much as the therapies.
